In Romania this process has been initiated by WWF DCP Romania, and the FSC Controlled Wood Risk Assessment is developed by a Working composed of specialists from different fields.

This first version has been developed, within two workshops, by specialists and stakeholders in the economic, social and environmental fields (see list of the Working Group), in compliance with procedure FSC-PRO-60-002 (V3-0).

The FSC Controlled Wood Risk Assessment at national level shall be a useful instrument for all companies which intend to trade FSC Mix certified products which include controlled wood, according to standard FSC-STD-40-005 "FSC Standard for company assessment of FSC controlled wood".

This standard has been designed to allow companies to avoid trading illegally harvested wood, wood harvested in violation of traditional or civil rights, wood harvested from forests in which high conservation values are threatened by management activities, wood harvested from areas being converted from forests and other wooded ecosystems to plantations or non-forest uses or wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.

Compliance with this standard allows companies to provide FSC Controlled Wood for companies with FSC certified Chain of Custody in order to be combined with FSC certified material.
